Why do some HSK vocabulary lists show different word counts?
Older HSK materials use the previous vocabulary system.
The new HSK exam syllabus uses updated cumulative counts. Old and new sources are still mixed online, so users may see different totals.

HSK 1–2 focus on listening and reading, HSK 3–6 add writing to the written exam, and Levels 7–9 include listening, reading, writing, speaking, and translation.
