HSK vocabulary is cumulative. By the end of HSK 6, you are expected to know 5,400 words in total, but only 1,800 of them are new at this level.
| Level | New words | Total |
|---|---|---|
| HSK 1 | 300 | 300 |
| HSK 2 | 200 | 500 |
| HSK 3 | 500 | 1,000 |
| HSK 4 | 1,000 | 2,000 |
| HSK 5 | 1,600 | 3,600 |
| HSK 6 | 1,800 | 5,400 |
If you have completed HSK 5, your new vocabulary target is:
Words 3601–5400 — 1,800 new HSK 6 words
The PDF focuses on those new words, so you do not have to work through the first 3,600 words again.
The earlier vocabulary still matters — it is part of the full HSK 6 requirement — but this PDF is designed to help you focus on what HSK 6 actually adds.
The HSK 6 vocabulary list PDF is a printable checklist of new Level 6 words.
Each entry includes:
The list covers 3601–5400, so you can clearly see where HSK 5 ends and HSK 6 begins.
The PDF works best as a printable checklist, offline reference, and simple way to track which words still need attention.
It is not meant to replace the online vocabulary tool.
At HSK 6, a short English definition often does not tell you enough about how a word is actually used.
When a word feels unclear, use the online HSK 6 Vocabulary List for search, examples, flashcards, and usage notes.
If you search for an HSK6 PDF online, you may still find vocabulary lists built around 5,000 or 5,000+ words.
Those usually follow the previous HSK system.
5,000+ words
5,400 total words
Under the new standard:
That means HSK 6 adds 1,800 new words, covering cumulative numbers 3601–5400.
If two HSK 6 PDFs show different word counts, check which HSK standard they follow before comparing them.
Older PDFs can still be useful for study, but their word counts should not automatically be treated as the new HSK 6 requirement.
Different resources are useful for different parts of HSK 6 study.

You do not need to choose only one.
The PDF is best for organizing your vocabulary, the online list is better for understanding how words are actually used, and the official sample materials show how that language appears in the exam.
A list of 1,800 new words can feel overwhelming if you treat it as one giant task.
The PDF is much more useful when you use it to organize your study.
Go through the checklist once before trying to memorize everything.
You will probably already recognize some of the words.
Mark those first.
That gives you a much clearer picture of which words actually need your attention.
Do not try to work through all 1,800 words at once.
Study smaller sections and return to earlier sections during later review.
The goal is steady progress, not racing to the final page.
Some HSK 6 words are hard to understand from a short definition alone.
大致 · 大约
阻碍 · 阻挡
担忧 · 担心
These words may look close in English, but they are not always used in the same way.
HSK 6 vocabulary is often more formal, more abstract, and more dependent on context. Notice whether a word sounds formal or conversational and which words it commonly pairs with — its collocations.
If two words feel similar or a definition feels too vague, open the online HSK 6 vocabulary page and compare the examples and usage notes.
HSK 6 adds 1,800 new words, but it does not replace HSK 1–5.
The first 3,600 words are still part of the vocabulary you need.
Keep mixing older vocabulary into your review while you work through 3601–5400.
The goal is not to keep adding new words while earlier ones slowly disappear.
The PDF helps you organize and review vocabulary.
The official sample materials help you see whether you can follow that vocabulary inside longer listening, reading, and writing tasks.
Do the sample first without checking the answers as you go.
This gives you a clearer picture of where you are actually struggling.
At HSK 6, a wrong answer is not always caused by one unknown word.
You may have:
That distinction matters.
If the words were unfamiliar, go back to the vocabulary list and review them.
If you knew the words but still lost the argument, spend more time with longer passages, structure, and exam-format practice.
At HSK 6, knowing the vocabulary and understanding the whole text are not always the same thing.
